A sterling silver dish, or ashtray featuring a horse shoe, riding crop and finishing post containing a cigar cutter. This wonderful little study is the perfect accessory for the cigar smoker who is a keen equestrian, or horse racing fan. The tray has a racing post toward the back which has a small lever to the side which will cut the tip of torpedo cigars. Attached to the finishing post is a beautifully made sterling silver horseshoe, running thorough the center of which is well executed riding crop. This, as well as being a good decorative addition, also works as a rest for the cigar to not sit in the as below.
The piece is America made. There appears to be no maker’s mark, and has not been attributed to anyone. It is stamped "Sterling" on the base. The quality is excellent and it has a charming overall look. Although designed for the cigar smoker, it is a great decorative piece and would work well on a coffee table or in an office. The condition is excellent overall. There are a couple of small indents to the rim of the dish, but are not noticeable and being mentioned purely for clarity. It dates circa early twentieth century.
